What to Keep out of our bodies as Healthy Healers .....

Firstly Cut processed and ultra-processed foods from your diet.

There are so many opinions on Nutrition - Gluten free, Dairy free, Keto, Carnivore, Vegan, Vegetarian to name a few and I think as we are all different and unique there is not one size fits all. It is more about connecting in with your own body to see what works best for you, to become a bit of a food detective.

However certain foods have inflammatory qualities and the 3 categories below are incredibly inflammatory on the body.

Processed and ultra processed foods disrupt the bodies metabolism, and Metabolic Illness is one of the fastest growing health conditions.

Its a great idea to remove following items from your diet, they are devoid of nutrients and nourishment.

  • Refined grains

  • Refined sugar

  • Refined vegetable and seed oils

 Refined Grains

Refining grains takes out all the healthy nutrients like vitamins, minerals and enzymes.

The reason the food industry refines so many different products is to extend the shelf life, once the healthy nutrients are taken out there is nothing in the food that can go rancid.

Examples of unrefined grains are wheat, oat, corn or rice flours, which are often found in pasta, white rice, cereals, crackers, bread.

  • The consumption of refined flour raises blood sugar and insulin, causing metabolic dysfunction.

  • Refined flour is depleted in nutrients and often contains harmful additives.

  • Refined grains have the good nutrients removed like the germ and bran. What about Gluten? Gluten is a protein found in many grain products like wheat, rye and barley. It is inflammatory, difficult to digest and can wreck havoc on the system particularly for someone with a leaky gut, Celiac Disease or with gluten sensitivity, if you are having issues like joint pain, or have been diagnosed with any autoimmune condition it might be worth cutting out gluten to see if you notice a difference. Refined Sugar

Refined sugars are created similarly to refined grains stripping the healthy vitamins, minerals and enzymes from the plant product. Eating refined sugar elevates blood sugar levels, leading to energy crashes and cravings for more sugar. All that excess sugar causes blood sugar levels to spike up and down, which can cause insulin resistance, weight gain and increase our risk of chronic conditions like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, arthritis and many more problems.

Examples of refined sugar;

☐ Sucrose ☐ Glucose ☐ Fructose

☐ High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS)

☐ Corn syrup ☐ Agave nectar ☐ Molasses

☐ Brown rice syrup ☐ Barley malt syrup

☐ Coconut sugar ☐ Date sugar

☐ Raw sugar ☐ juice ☐ Fruit juice

☐ Demerara ☐ Maltodextrin ☐ Maltose

☐ Palm sugar ☐ Confectioner's sugar

☐ Powdered sugar ☐ Golden syrup ☐ Sorbitol ☐ Maltitol ☐ Rice bran syrup ☐ Beet sugar

☐ Cane juice ☐ Molasses ☐ Caramel ☐ Rice malt syrup

 Vegetable and Seed Oils

Refined vegetable and seed oils are heavily processed oils that are high in Omega 6 fatty acids they are inflammatory on the body, causing insulin resistance and are actually thought to drive cardiovascular disease.

How are these oils made? The seeds

are heated to extremely high temperatures, causing the seeds to oxidise, then they are usually processed with a petroleum based solvent such as hexane to maximise the amount of oil extracted, then they are deodorised to get rid of the off putting smell and then more chemicals are added to improve the colour of the oil!

Sounds delicious doesn’t it?

Refined industrial seed oils (i.e., soybean oil, vegetable oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, cottonseed oil, palm oil, corn oil, rapeseed oil, safflower oil)

Lastly look at the ingredients on everything you eat - try to purchase items that have as few ingredients as possible, and its probably fair to say if you can't pronounce the ingredients or its a number, its not worth putting in your body.
